Is God, God?
The 2016 election season has been a discouraging experience for many citizens in our nation. While we have become used to political rhetoric and competitive antics between parties, never before have we seen such anger, hatred, and outright disrespect expressed amongst the people.
However, there is a greater struggle that confronts us today. We who are of the Christian faith have to wonder, where is God in all this? We prayed for a leader with compassion. We prayed for this nation to continue in the spirit of unity and cooperation. We don’t have to agree on everything. But can we disagree without being disagreeable? Why would God allow such divisive ideas to triumph in a national election? And why did He not intervene in a situation that many of us feel is ungodly?
Is God, God? Does He not care about how many of us as believers feel? The answer is in Scripture, where it’s always been. Isaiah 44:6-10 declares, “Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? And the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? Ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any.”
Simply put, God is still God! He has always been, and always will be, our Rock and our Shield. He sits high on His throne, and does not need an election to make Him sovereign. So in this season of uncertainty, the one thing we must be sure of is our relationship with the Lord. This is not the first time we have had problems with a president. But the God we serve is more than able to keep us lifted in these uncertain times. If God isn’t who He says He is, we may as well put away our Bibles and go play golf on Sundays. But if He is God, and I believe He is, we must trust Him and never doubt that He is in full and complete control!
